Weavey Studio - How to Make a Simple Macrame Keychain

Macrame keychains are a fun and easy project that you can complete in just a few minutes. They are a great way to add some personality to your keys or give as a gift to a friend. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create a simple macrame keychain using just a few basic knots.

Materials:

4mm cotton cord (one piece, 2 feet long)

Scissors

Keyring

Step 1: Cut your cord

Cut one piece of 4mm cotton cord, 2 feet long. Fold the cord in half and tie a knot at the top to create a loop. Hang the loop on a hook or dowel to keep it organized.

Step 2: Create the center knot

Take the two center cords and tie a knot about 1 inch from the top. This will create the center of your keychain.

Step 3: Create the square knots

Take one cord from each adjacent pair and tie a square knot (right over left, left over right) about 1/2 inch below the center knot. Repeat this process with the other adjacent pairs until you have three sets of square knots.

Step 4: Create the bottom knot

Take all four cords and tie a knot at the bottom, leaving about 1 inch of cord below the knot. This will create the base of your keychain.

Step 5: Add the keyring

Thread the keyring through the loop at the top of your keychain and tie a knot to secure it in place.

Step 6: Finish your keychain

Trim the ends of the cords to your desired length and comb them out to create a fringe effect. Your keychain is now ready to use!

Tips:

Be patient and take your time with each knot to ensure that your keychain is secure and balanced.

Experiment with different knotting techniques and colors to create a unique design.

Use a keyring that is sturdy and can handle the weight of your keys.

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to make a simple macrame keychain. Happy knotting!
